The Truth About Sex During Marriage
Yes, sometimes sex stops after marriage, but studies show that marriage often means that you’re going to have more sex and a higher quality of life. Who knew? Guess what? Married couples do have sex. No–it’s not perfect. Sometimes sex stops after marriage or you’re one of the millions of Americans in sexless marriages. But overall–marriage often means you’re going to have more sex and an overall higher quality of life (including more money) than being single. The myth that every marriage is sexless is completely false and continues to dissuade couples against marriage. Which is totally OK. It’s the relationship that counts. But we mustn’t forget that married couples are just like those in long-term relationships. Couples shouldn’t be persuaded…

Happiness in a Sexless Marriage – Is It OK?
Dear Annie: My husband takes antidepressants. He suffers from severe anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. If he doesn’t take his pills, he’s tough to be around. He becomes depressed. His attitude toward everything is negative. He stays in bed. He sleeps all day. It’s an ugly sight. We met when we were in our 20s. Life was carefree when we fell in love. We were young, and all that mattered was spending time together. Most importantly, our sex life was great. We’re currently in our late 30s. Nowadays, we have “adult” problems — such as jobs, a mortgage and maintaining our health. Those are normal obstacles for any married…

Why So Many Couples Are Having Less Sex
New research finds a decline in sexual frequency. Americans are getting it on less often. That’s what my co-authors and I found after combing through data on over 25,000 American adults who were asked how often they had sex: The average adult now has sex 9 fewer times than the average adult claimed in the late 1990s. The declines were largest among married people living with their partners, who now have sex 16 fewer times a year. That decline has been in effect on for a while, since at least the late 1990s. Never-married people had sex more often in the 2000s than in the 1990s as the norms around premarital sex changed, but after 2008, that group’s…

5 Big Signs Your Sex Life Needs A Makeover
By Ashley Papa Americans are having less sex than they did in the 1990s, a recent study suggests. But when it comes to getting busy in the bedroom, quantity doesn’t always trump quality. In fact, a 2015 study published by the Society for Professional and Social Psychology found that the maximum bonding benefits of sex tend to cap out when couples get down and dirty once per week. Dr. Maria Sophocles, a board-certified gynecologist and sexual medicine specialist, told Fox News that couples who are happy with their sex life shouldn’t worry over how much they’re doing the deed. However, communication about that aspect of the relationship is key for…

3 Women Talk About Living In A Sexless Marriage
Sex isn’t the most important part of a relationship. By Ashley Papa We’re constantly hearing about the latest and greatest ways improve things between the sheets, not just because sex is fun and healthy, but because it’s important for the strength and closeness of long-term romantic relationships. Right? Sure, that’s the common refrain, but the reality may tell a different story. Research finds that one in five married people in America (20 percent) have not had sex in the last month, 12 percent haven’t done the deed in the last three months and 6 percent haven’t had sex in more than a year. (“Sexless” is defined as having intercourse 10 times or…

The Science of Sexual Satisfaction
Maegan Boutot first published this on her Medium blog. A happy sex life is an important part of a fulfilling life. What a happy sex life means is subjective, as our sexual desires, expectations and needs differ from one another and change as we grow and age. Some people want to have sex daily, while other people are content never having sex throughout their lifetime. The subjectivity of sexual satisfaction is an important consideration in research and diagnosis of sexual dysfunction. On the World Health Organization (WHO) quality of life survey, the four questions that ask about participant’s sex lives are all subjective (1). Relatedly, although about 4 out of…

DAY 1: That wedding night sex where it’s either completely amazing, or you don’t bother and just go to sleep. It’s your wedding night, which means either you’ve been looking forward to this for a really long time, or you’ve already had so much sex and you’re so exhausted from your wedding day, you just like, “LOL, we can do it in the morning.” It’s OK. The Sexist Stigma Against Depressed Men—and How to Fight It
As a woman, I feel comfortable telling people that I live with bipolar disorder and I often experience clinical depression. However, I’ve heard from my male friends that they don’t have the same experience about opening up about being a man and having Depression. In my mind, this is a societal misperception and indicative of sexism. I believe that everyone with mental health issues has the right to feel their feelings in a candid way and speak about them openly. I was inspired to find out more about how men experience Depression. I started with the staff of The Good Men Project for commentary on the subject. Michael Kasdan, attorney…

7 Reasons You Should Be Jealous Of Married Sex
Recently, I was driving down a crowded New York City street near a large college campus. It was late, and I was in a mad dash to get home because I’m old now and I had kids to get on the bus in the wee hours of the next morning. As I inched down the street, my eyes fell upon young college kids crowding the cafes and bars. I noticed the lithe frames of the girls in tiny tank tops and perfectly straightened hair, and I observed as guys with starched shirts and ironic shorts stood around sipping craft beers. Sitting at a stoplight, I watched as the girls flipped…
