7 Unexpected Places Where You Can Unplug and Recharge

unplugging and relaxing and recharging

Family life can be hectic, stressful and time-consuming. It’s not like when you were single and living on your own. You have to keep the kids occupied, the dog happy and your life running smoothly.

These are all great things happening in your life, but they are also a lot of work and it gets harder to find time for yourself. Time to unwind and recharge. Sometimes you only have a few minutes.

Well, make those few minutes count by unplugging and relaxing in these unexpected everyday places:

  1. In line at the coffee shop

What a hectic morning, and it’s not even 9 o’clock yet. As you wait in line to get that large coffee, push all your thoughts from your head and let nothing pass you over. Bonus points if you are so zoned out that you miss the barista saying, “How May I Help You?”

  1. On your commute to work

Not a coffee drinker? Well, use the travel time to work, whether it be in the car, bus or train, to turn your brain off for a minute. If you can, shut your eyes and let your mind slip, unless you’re driving. This can be looked at as the gap between the busyness of home and the busyness of work.

  1. In a meeting

Your boss called a 10:30am meeting on Wednesday morning. As everyone gathers into the meeting room and your boss prepares his notes, you can enjoy a few minutes of work free living. Your coworkers aren’t so bad, why not share a laugh with them before getting back to business? Laughter is a great medicine to keep you feeling happy and energized.

  1. In the restroom at work

It’s now 11 o’clock at work and you haven’t stopped since 6 o’clock this morning. Excuse yourself down the hall to the restroom and have a seat. You can spend up to five minutes in here before anyone starts to worry. Just blame it on that morning’s breakfast if they ask!

  1. In the elevator

When you find yourself on an elevator, whether that be every day or once a month, take the few minutes of standing in a metal box to think about something you’re looking forward to. It could be an episode of your favorite show or just going to bed tonight. When you reach your floor, you’ll be like a brand new person.

  1. At an appointment

Nobody likes sitting in a doctor’s office as you wait for your name to be called. But have you ever thought of this time as a time to relax? Probably not. Well, pick up an old magazine and do some light reading or even look at the pictures. There’s nothing you can do here but wait so why not make the best of it. They’re probably running behind anyway!

  1. At a party or gathering

Going to a gathering on Friday evening is the last thing you want to do after a busy week with your family, but you can’t skip out. After racing to feed the kids, getting cleaned up and jumping back in your vehicle, find a quiet corner to turn your brain off and breathe. Two minutes of looking at the living room wall art while you think happy thoughts will do the trick.

You can turn any minute or more into a chance to recharge your batteries. All you need is the desire to do it. Challenge yourself to find a free minute or two every day to find time to unplug from it all. You’ll love it!
