What to do When you Feel Inspired

The more you move forward, the more life becomes clearer. Sometimes it takes a bumpy ride in life to find your inner light.

“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”  –Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”  –Paulo Coelho

It’s common to have new ideas pop up here and there. We are wired to have new ideas occur. When you’re feeling inspired, or you’re on an “idea high,” however, you may have dozens of ideas pop into your head all day and even when you’re sleeping. A stream of ideas is a creative flow that needs to be jumped upon and seized. I’ve had many ideas in the past and realized years later that they would have probably worked out well if I went through with them at the time of their arrival in my mind. I wasn’t aware of this then, though, so what can you do?

Once you begin to feel slightly inspired, start to do something with it. Do anything. You need to use it to get more. Don’t just go to sleep. Do that after you get it out if needed. But first, make something. Apply for something. Create something. Post something useful—on social media or in the world. Just do something. Use that ball of inspiration burning and produce something. It can be little. But little is what gets things started. Little is fine for now. Little gets big. Whatever it is, just put something out there. Don’t let your amazing ideas remain to simmer inside of you always. Getting it out is necessary. Who cares what people think of it? Who cares if someone laughs at it? The more you put it out there, the better you will become. And I’m sure you’ve heard this more than you can count it, but, you don’t have to please everyone. There’s someone for everything. Some people will like what you put out there. Even if they don’t tell you right now. It’s ok. Just produce something—anything—of your own.

At the beginning of 2010, I came to a plateau in life and went on a search for how to become more optimistic. I learned about being thankful, giving to others, trusting my intuition, and asking my inner self for guidance. I started to study these ideas, and my life began to transform. I would write to myself every day—I let out any negativity and programmed thoughts that were circling in my head. I felt uncomfortable writing and reading it, but, in the end, I realized how necessary it was to understand where I was—and where I was headed. So, I began to write out my fears and what disgruntled me. I then knocked down each fear. If I had a fear of a certain thing, like flying in a plane—I would search everything I could to trample over the fear. I watched YouTube videos that showed airline pilots explaining aerodynamics and the very low risk of crashing. It gave me more confidence.

While learning about becoming optimistic and re-learning how to be an authentic individual, I realized that we have the responsibility to overcome any ideas of limitation. We go through our life programmed to a great extent and the only way to get out of it is to begin to re-think what you believe to be true.

When you find your power and express it through your actions and energy, people may be surprised. And that’s fine. Don’t let that stop you. The more you move forward, the more life becomes clearer.

You can be just as determined with as much drive as anyone else without breaking down to complain about being exhausted. You have much to offer. When you find your power and express it through your actions and energy, people may be surprised. And that’s fine. Don’t let that stop you. The more you move forward, the more life becomes clearer. Clear your mind to let new ideas pour in. Think of a glass of water that never gets emptied. It’s not okay. You always need to clear it and run clean water over it. Keep it moving. Keep it flowing. Energize it. Oxidate it. Ionize it. Keep it clear.

Sometimes it takes a bumpy ride in life to find your inner light. Of course, it’s not always the case—but if you are on the downside of thinking, you might have to run over some rough patches in life to wake up to seeing light when you open your eyes. If you are so deep down in lower thinking, it may be that you need to open your eyes, look up, and see sunlight. Hear laughing. Realize it’s all good. It’s hard to be upset when you feel the sun and hear happiness. I’ve been there! I was feeling pretty low—beating myself up on the inside—and I closed my eyes for a few minutes. I paused life. I paused. I rubbed my head. Then, I opened my eyes and saw the bright sun. I felt it. It was masterfully penetrating. Then, I heard my kids laughing in the background. It drowned out any feelings that didn’t “feel good.” It diminished. Remembering that feeling of light and hearing laughter reminds me that it’s always there.

These ways of renewing—being quiet sometimes, getting inspired, being tranquil, writing it out, talking it out, clearing your mind, finding the light—are all stones that you walk on to get into that coveted creative flow… when your confidence comes out with ease. When you don’t need to ask someone if you’re doing the right thing… you just know what to do.
